Young Physician Section

Keywords: Membership  Young_Physician_Section

All physicians under the age of 40 or in their first eight years of practice are considered "young physicians." With your TMA physician membership, you are included in the TMA Young Physician Section (YPS) and are encouraged to participate in its activities and meetings.

The YPS provides a means for physicians under the age of 40 or in their first eight years of practice to participate in activities and programs relevant to the physician just entering practice. The section provides input into TMA policy through direct access and representation in the House of Delegates.

To apply for TMA membership, complete the online application form.

Lace Up Your Sneakers for Medicine

Want to improve health care in America? Want to be a catalyst for change? Want to help elect politicians who will put patients and physicians first? Participate in an upcoming TEXPAC Alliance Volunteer Days.

Join us as we roll up our sleeves, lace up our sneakers, and work in the field to elect TEXPAC-endorsed candidates. TEXPAC Alliance Volunteer Days is coming to a city near you, and we'll be calling on members of the family of medicine. Medicine faces several tight elections this season; a successful 83rd legislative session will take shape in the field in each one of these races.

Volunteering is easy and fun. TEXPAC will provide all the information you need to get started with confidence. For details, including time and location, and to register for these events, please call TEXPAC's Paula Frey at (512) 370-1361 or TMAA's Sandy Solis at (512) 370-1328. Michael O'Malley, MD Memorial Scholarship

In 2007, the YPS Rural Scholarship was transformed into a memorial scholarship for Michael O’Malley, MD. Dr. O’Malley, a recipient of a similar scholarship himself, was an internal medicine physician in Galveston and past chair of the TMA Young Physician Section. Tragically, Dr. O’Malley died from cardiac arrest in his home at the age of 43 and left a wife and two young children. In his memory, the young physicians’ are continuing the tradition of helping rural high school seniors pursue a degree in the field of medicine.

To ensure the continued work of this scholarship, make a donation.
